Yesterday afternoon (03 August 2023), I had the honour of being invited by Ms Olivia Higgins from MooMoo Singapore to be on the latest episode of the ‘Playing with FIRE’, a monthly show by MooMoo Singapore, hosted by Ms Higgins herself, where she interview financial experts on their financial journey.
During the half hour session, I shared about:
- My investment journey, and how ‘The Singaporean Investor’ came about (it was from 2 problems that I face as a financial newbie)
- 2 main concerns that REIT investors have at the moment, and my views about them
- The 4 things I look at when it comes to shortlisting REITs to add on to my investment portfolio
- 1 biggest misconception that people have about the Singapore market
- And more…
For those of you who have missed out on the ‘live’ session yesterday, you can check out the replay of it below:
Correction: During the video, when I was asked about how young investors can get started, I mentioned the can start off by investing in the Straits Times Index (STI) ETF, and that they only need to buy 100 shares to get started – I made a mistake there, because with effect from 17 January 2022, for ETFs listed on the Singapore Exchange, the minimum is just 1 share – meaning you only need S$3+, plus brokerage fees, to start investing in the STI ETF. Apologies for the error.
I hope you will find the sharing in the ‘live’ session yesterday useful – appreciate it if you could give the video a ‘like’ if you have learned something from it!
If there’s anything you like to ask, or if there are any comments and/or suggestions you may have, please let me know in the comments section below, or drop me a message here. I will do my best to respond to the very best of my ability.
REITs vs Banks: Which Investment Delivers More for Income Seekers?
If you thought 2025 was a wild ride for the stock market, wait until you see 2026! With not only the uncertainty of interest rate changes and geopolitical tensions but also a military operation by Israel and the United States against Iran, it's set to be even more turbulent.
So, with all this in mind, which is the better choice for income investors: REITs or banks?
I'm honoured to be re-invited by Dinah Poehlmann from Your Finance Mind for a fireside chat on Zoom this year, where I'll be sharing my insights on this topic.
Join me on Thursday, 19 March 2026, from 8pm to 9pm, as I offer my thoughts and answer any questions you may have.

Are You Worried about Not Having Enough Money for Retirement?
You're not alone. According to the OCBC Financial Wellness Index, only 62% of people in their 20s and 56% of people in their 30s are confident that they will have enough money to retire.
But there is still time to take action. One way to ensure that you have a comfortable retirement is to invest in real estate investment trusts (REITs).
In 'Building Your REIT-irement Portfolio' which I've authored, you will learn everything you need to know to build a successful REIT investment portfolio, including a list of 9 things to look at to determine whether a REIT is worthy of your investment, 1 simple method to help you maximise your returns from your REIT investment, 4 signs of 'red flags' to look out for and what you can do as a shareholder, and more!
