We’ve come to the 5th, and final part of the ‘Ready to REITire’ video series, done together with the very joyful team (its been a great joy for me to be able to work together with them) at The Joyful Investors.
For the benefit of those who are coming across this video series for the first time, a quick introduction – this is a 5-part video series to educate those who are new to investing how they can invest in REITs to generate a steady stream of income. You can watch the previous instalments via the respective links below:
Video #1 – Introduction to REITs, advantages of investing in them, along with some of their limitations;
Video #2 – 3 things to look at to determine whether a REIT is worthy of a place in our investment portfolio;
Video #3 – 3 ‘red flags’ to avoid when it comes to investing in a REIT – this is so powerful to the extent that, by making sure the REITs that you invest in do not have any of the ‘red flags’, you can significantly reduce the risk of making a bad investment decision;
Video #4 – How will REITs be impacted by the current high interest rate environment, and why is it still good to invest in them now;
For those of you who have already watched all of the videos, I really hope you’ve benefited from the contents within.
In this final video, both Hazelle and myself will be sharing our thoughts on how the ‘work from home’ trend will affect REITs having office properties, as well as whether or not the ‘online shopping’ trend will negatively impact the footfall, and also sales of tenants in the retail malls (and REITs owning them):

Final thoughts: In case you’re wondering, doing videos isn’t my forte (as I am neither photogenic, nor am I able to speak well with the camera rolling), but I still wanted to do this when The Joyful Investors initiated the collaboration, because I truly feel the video series is going to benefit fellow Singaporean investors (particularly those who are new to investing and looking to learn the basics of it.)
That said, I really hope you have found the entire ‘Ready to REITire’ video series useful, and that you will apply everything you have learned in the 5 videos to start building your REIT portfolio.

REITs vs Banks: Which Investment Delivers More for Income Seekers?
If you thought 2025 was a wild ride for the stock market, wait until you see 2026! With not only the uncertainty of interest rate changes and geopolitical tensions but also a military operation by Israel and the United States against Iran, it's set to be even more turbulent.
So, with all this in mind, which is the better choice for income investors: REITs or banks?
I'm honoured to be re-invited by Dinah Poehlmann from Your Finance Mind for a fireside chat on Zoom this year, where I'll be sharing my insights on this topic.
Join me on Thursday, 19 March 2026, from 8pm to 9pm, as I offer my thoughts and answer any questions you may have.

Are You Worried about Not Having Enough Money for Retirement?
You're not alone. According to the OCBC Financial Wellness Index, only 62% of people in their 20s and 56% of people in their 30s are confident that they will have enough money to retire.
But there is still time to take action. One way to ensure that you have a comfortable retirement is to invest in real estate investment trusts (REITs).
In 'Building Your REIT-irement Portfolio' which I've authored, you will learn everything you need to know to build a successful REIT investment portfolio, including a list of 9 things to look at to determine whether a REIT is worthy of your investment, 1 simple method to help you maximise your returns from your REIT investment, 4 signs of 'red flags' to look out for and what you can do as a shareholder, and more!
